An experienced Town Under 23s side returned to the top of the Professional Development League South table away to Millwall this afternoon (Monday 18th January), as Idris El Mizouni’s long-range strike with the last kick of the game was enough to send the Blues home with all three points.

The Under 23s, sponsored by CNet Training and managed by Kieron Dyer and Terry Butcher, began the afternoon in third place – a point and goal difference behind Millwall and Bristol City. The game, in which Town were wearing their away kit, was heading for a goalless draw but El Mizouni had other ideas. Recently back from a second loan spell at Cambridge United, the young Tunisian international let fly from 20 yards out in the 93rd minute. The strike bounced up off the turf just in front of the goalkeeper and, although the young Lions shot stopper got a touch, he was unable to keep it out.

The win leaves Ipswich in top spot on 23 points after 12 games. Town are two points clear of both Millwall and Bristol City, although the Robins do have a game in hand. Our next scheduled Under 23s match is the home game against Colchester United at Playford Road (behind closed doors) on the afternoon of Tuesday 26th January.
