Ipswich Town’s Under 18s saw their recent good run halted at Playford Road on Saturday (20th March 2021), as Sheffield Wednesday claimed a 5-1 away win. Despite the loss, however, Adem Atay’s side (sponsored by Britton Group) retained top spot in the league table.
Town went into the game off the back of four consecutive wins and having not lost in eight, but were beaten by the Owls on this occasion. The visitors took an early lead on 7′ minutes through Bonnington and, in a first half of few chances, that was how it stayed until the break. Michael Bareck’s shot did test Wednesday ‘keeper Hare just before the interval, but the referee blew the whistle with the Blues 0-1 down.
The home team played their way into the game during the early stages of the second half, culminating with Ola Bello robbing a defender on the edge of the box and curling an effort off the bar in the 63rd minute. Shortly afterwards, however, the visitors extended their lead on through Cadamarteri (70′).
Matt Ward pulled one back for Town on 74′ with a good left-foot finish into the far corner, but Wednesday hit straight back and restored their two-goal advantage within a minute as Cadamarteri (75′) fired into the roof of the net from close range.
Town were pushing numbers forward to try and get back into the game, but Zorros netted a fourth on 83′ and Cadamarteri completed his hat-trick in stoppage time (90+3′).
