Ipswich Town’s Under 23s kept up the pressure on table-topping Bristol City, with a 2-1 come-from-behind away win against Charlton Athletic on Monday afternoon (29th March 2021).
Kieron Dyer’s side (sponsored by CNet Training) currently sit in second position in the Professional Development League South standings, having lost their previous outing 4-1 against Hull seven days prior. The Blues returned to winning ways on this away trip, however, to stay hot on the heels of the league-leading Robins.
Town beat Charlton at this age level just a couple of weeks ago at Playford Road (Tuesday 16th March), by two goals to one, and this victory was achieved by the same scoreline. Town had to come behind on this occasion, however, as the hosts opened the scoring on eight minutes via a Mason Burstow strike. Town were unable to draw level before the whistle and the Addicks took their 1-0 lead into the break.
It was a different story in the second half, however, as Armando Dobra (who had come off the bench for the first-team at Wigan two days earlier) equalised in the 53rd minute. Town then completed the turnaround in the 69th minute, as Levi Andoh converted to put the Blues into the lead. The Londoners pushed for a share of the points but were unable to strike back, as all three points made their way back to Suffolk.
Town’s Under 23s are next in action when they host Bristol City in a top-of-the-table clash at Playford Road on Tuesday 6th April.
